About

You've just arrived at the online residence of wandie and reika. The two of them are NO LONGER separated (but are still inseparable) by a vast ocean and two and a half continents. They NO LONGER need to communicate by shouting really loudly and occasionally writing each other hidden messages in this blog. Feel free to poke around and post some comments.

Welp, after a whole month of pent up urge to tell people, today is the day I can finally say that I'm now officially a Yahoo!. I've just left DSTA on a high note with more than a tinge of sadness. I will SERIOUSLY miss you guys and girls in KDS. *weep*.

As is with all new jobs, the early days are being spent setting up the physical and virtual workspace and generally being a good absorbent sponge. I can definately feel a different and exciting buzz in the office. Perhaps thats why Y!'s still a company that matters.

Oh and have you seen our new front page? ;)

Some random facts

- According to a leading ratings company, more Singaporeans visit Fridae.com than Togoparts.com. I wonder how many visit both?

- In an interview with the author of 100 Bullshit Jobs, The Sunday Times replaced all instances of 'shit' with 'sh*t' but then decides to display the title on the book cover in it's full uncensored glory.

- Sales of Mentos candy have nearly tripled in the last year, after five years of steady decline. This surge is attributed to the popularity of the various soda / Mentos experiment videos on the Internet.

- And according to the girl, the Nintendo DS Lite is currently sold out in Houston. :(

Dammit!

Along comes a brilliant oppourtunity to tour Taiwan on a dime and I have no leave to spare for it!

The Taiwan Cyclist Federation (that's like SACA with a T) is organizing a 1000km 12 day round island tour this August and all participants have to do is to fly there with their bikes and fork out US$100 for registration. Thats it! Hotel and food costs are borne by them! They're even providing side trips to places of interest for free! And bike maintenance crews are on hand as well! Argh.........

"Taiwan Cyclist Federation is now organizing a cycle tour which will circle the island in 12 days. You will join a colleague student challenge team to circle the island with your feet on the paddles. You will visit major cities and small townships of Taiwan, visit major religious temples of local gods, experience famous night markets and enjoy local snacks and cuisine. The bike route will cross the island from the west to the east, and you can enjoy the beautiful scene of the east coast as well as the famous Taroko gorge of the Taroko national park."

Well if you can afford the time out this August and can sit on a saddle for at least 100km a day (no mention of panniers or sag wagons though), pick up the registration forms (word doc link) now!

If you're driving about on Saturday in the afternoon and early evening, please be aware that there will be a procession of cyclists who will be out riding in rememberance of fellow cyclists who have been killed on the roads all over the world. The Singapore Ride of Silence will take place over two legs starting off at 5pm from Ayer Rajah CC to Dempsey Road Public Carpark and then from 7pm from the same car park to Lau Pa Sat.

If you do spot them, which shouldn't be too difficult because 1. they're not going to be going faster than 19km/h and 2. they'll all be donning black or red armbands, please do not honk your honks or attempt to goad any of the riders into responding. Please DO give them a wave and a wide berth as you drive past them. For more information about this international movement, visit the RoS website.

And for something a little more upbeat, we're all raring to go bright and early on Sunday for the Yew Tee Cycle Challenge. We've got 32 teams lined up to take on the roads (and the rumoured 'off roads') around Yew Tee, Choa Chu Kang and other *ahem* ulu-er parts of Singapore which some people might never have heard of.

Although registration for the event has closed, if you're on the lookout for bike parts and accessories, you might be interested in coming down to Yew Tee CC that very morning to check out the wares at the various booths.
