About

You've just arrived at the online residence of wandie and reika. The two of them are NO LONGER separated (but are still inseparable) by a vast ocean and two and a half continents. They NO LONGER need to communicate by shouting really loudly and occasionally writing each other hidden messages in this blog. Feel free to poke around and post some comments.

For one reason or another, I was able to spot copies of October and December issues of Wired magazine side by side at various newsstands and bookstores but not the November one pictured here. What gives?

by | § | trackbackYet another post about the GST Hike

With all the hoo-haa about yet another GST Hike all around. I've been getting quite a few instant messages from friends and contacts pointing me to related websites, petitions, forums and so on. One particular link from the recent past caught my eye.

"Currently, the GST rate stands at 3%. Come January, it will be increased to 5%. Five years later, maybe after the next general election, it may again be raised, perhaps to 7%, 9% or even 12%. I do not know how much higher it can go, but I am very certain that every percentage increase is going to affect everyone, but more so for the lower income, the poor, the unemployed and the retired." - former NCMP Steve Chia, 2002 Budget Statement Debate

We just had our very first Yahoo! Hack Day in Singapore (and South East Asia of course) today and boy did time zip by! It was also interesting to see non-engineering folks joining in the fun too. Since we started planning and spreading the word, people have been contributing hack ideas and suggestions that were probably gnawing away in their heads. In all, we received over 50 hack ideas and suggestions. Considering the relatively small number of able bodied participants (i.e. techies), we did manage to churn out a fairly impressive number of hacks some of which received the coveted 'WOW! WHEN CAN I GET THIS INTO PRODUCTION?' exclamations during the judging phase. Some points of note for this inaugural event.
