About

You've just arrived at the online residence of wandie and reika. The two of them are NO LONGER separated (but are still inseparable) by a vast ocean and two and a half continents. They NO LONGER need to communicate by shouting really loudly and occasionally writing each other hidden messages in this blog. Feel free to poke around and post some comments.

I'm a fan of slick flash intros so naturally Casino Royale's title sequence has become my favourite Bond one ever. And it's now on YouTube.

The Yahoo! Christmas gift for employees all over the globe arrived in town today. Instead of the usual jackets, or backpacks, or in the case of IKEA UK, a foldable bike, each of us received a 'gift of giving'. A gift card of US$100 in cash to be donated to a charitable organisation of our choice. That's well over a million bucks spread over almost 11 thousand employees! That for me, is really cool.

So we're in the middle of a week-long dogsitting of a friend's huge malamute (or is it a husky?). Shaolin's getting less fearful of her and becoming increasingly attention seeking. Scenes like these...

...have been replaced by those where the two start jostling for attention and food!

She was terribly homesick at the start but has since warmed up to most of the family and gotten curious about all things around the house. A friendly and gentle dog to have by your side all day. She's well built and looks intimidating but you would want to delegate guard duties to someone else because she's quite timid and friendly to strangers. Sadly, she's been bounced off temporary 'owners' for a bit recently. The original owner has had to give her up due to family commitments and willing foster parents with adequate space and time (the breed needs LOTS of daily exercise) are hard to come by.

Observing Cypress up close these past few days has made me remember what I saw on the website of the artist Roz Stendahl. Roz made daily drawings of her malamute 'Dottie' for almost 5 years. Right up until Dottie passed away from liver cancer. If you have time, it's really worth visiting her site for the truely beautiful drawings and to read the heartbreaking notes from her last days.
