About

You've just arrived at the online residence of wandie and reika. The two of them are NO LONGER separated (but are still inseparable) by a vast ocean and two and a half continents. They NO LONGER need to communicate by shouting really loudly and occasionally writing each other hidden messages in this blog. Feel free to poke around and post some comments.

Wandie took on a temp job as a construction worker. He'll be back this weekend.

... with my acupuncturist.

At special request by my Amoy kakis, HSY and NAH.

I've been experiencing Bell's Palsy symptoms lately. I freaked out, so much so that I'm undergoing treatments now. I first had it back in 2003 and was alone in Leicester. I cried for days before I could talk to my housemates about it. I went to see a GP and the first thing she said when she saw me was, "Oh I know someone who has Bell's Palsy. She got it during her third trimester and she never fully recovered". She gave me some prescribed steroids and further dented my morale, "It might not work at all".

I later found out at all my ex-colleagues were afflicted with Bell's Palsy at about the same time. The only common thing among us was we all had received chicken pox vaccine as it was some work related requirement. But till this day, we have not concluded if our misery was caused by the jab.

Anyway I'm not promoting TCM here, but acupuncture was an immediate and effective fix for me. Wish i could report more (such as its effect on the actual cause, etc.), but all I know is that it brought back ability to move my facial muscles.

Plugged in - 'Off' mode  Went to my first Mac Meetup on Monday. Heck, it's the first time ever that I've attending a gathering based on the fact that attendees were users and fans of a computer operating system. Asking the obvious ' Are there Windows Users Meetups? ' will surely invite a flurry of jokes like ' Does the queue at Challenger's PC Clinic count? '. More about that meetup here. Thank you Siva for organizing it.

Practical wireless power transmission is years away (decades even) but in the mean time I believe I've found the neatest way to keep those nasty wires out of sight. This new hangout called 'Geek Terminal' where we met for the Mac Users Meetup has electrical strips installed that runs the entire length of its carpeted flooring. These strips replaced the need for unsightly fixed wall sockets and eliminates the geek-to-wall syndrome that I often see in conferences and cafes.

To tap into their power source, they hand out these special portable sockets that you have to plug into place and twist. Mechanical and electronic magic happens and your electronic device smiles it's happy yellow/blue/green/blue glow smile. If I had my way, I'd install these power strips at home right away. More photos here, here and here.
